Over 7 years in the making, in 2023 the first-ever harvest of wine grapes in the Kingdom took place, resulting in the first barrel of wine ever produced from its terroir. This also marked perhaps the first time in over 150 years that a new wine region has been launched from scratch.

The summer & fall of 2024 marked the first commercial release harvest, with the 2024 vintage currently in production and planned for release some time in later 2025.

Beauty & Spirit
of BHUTAN

in a bottle

In April of 2025, the only public offering of bottles from this historic inaugural vintage of wine was made available for sale through Bonhams global auction house--representing a landmark occurrence in wine history.

Ser Kem—a term representing “an offering of alcohol to the Gods” in the Kingdom of Bhutan—is the first and only wine ever produced from grapes grown in this stunningly beautiful country in the Himalaya Mountains, with each bottle seeking to capture the spirit of Bhutan to be shared with the world.

Bhutan Wine Company

Ser Kem is produced and bottled by Bhutan Wine Company, whose vision is to develop the fine wine industry in the kingdom of Bhutan, by celebrating the beauty and magic of the country’s land, people, and culture to create fine wine products destined for the global markets. Bhutan was the first carbon negative country in the world, and comprises pristine, vibrant and diverse soils, pure microplastic free water, and pollution free air which allows for it to historically grow some of the world’s best agricultural crops. With this as its backdrop, the company has established nine vineyards throughout the country, across various climatic zones and altitudes, with 16 different grape varietals planted.
